Scientific areas

The main profile of the scientific and practical activities of the ECG laboratory is the development and introduction into practice of new methods for analyzing the electric field of the heart. Laboratory staff developed and actively applied methods of vectorcardiographic diagnostics and dipole electrocardiotopography, precordial and dispersive ECG mapping (including stress testing), new approaches to the analysis of Holter ECG recordings, the results of bifunctional monitoring of ECG and blood pressure, heart rate variability over long periods of time. The laboratory is actively developing methods of syndromic ECG diagnostics based on the use of an orthogonal electrocardiogram and a vectorcardiogram reconstructed from 12 leads ECG. C

urrently, the laboratory's work is focused on the development of telemedicine technologies, including remote registration and centralized analysis of ECG and long-term remote monitoring of ECG.

The most significant results of recent studies:

  • use of corrected orthogonal vectorcardiography and dipole electrocardiotopography has significantly increased the sensitivity of the syndromic diagnosis of myocardial infarction and left ventricular hypertrophy;
  • study of the method of dispersion mapping has shown its importance for the screening of cardiovascular pathology;
  • fundamentally new approaches to the analysis of sinus rhythm variability over long periods of time, using the so-called double rhythmogram breaks, have made it possible to detect the connection between heart rhythm and pulmonary vascular resistance in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension;
  • Long-term ECG monitoring has been shown to detect early recurrences of atrial fibrillation in patients undergoing radiofrequency ablation of the pulmonary veins;
  • in the framework of the project «Zdorov'ye» (“Health”), a system of remote registration and centralized analysis of ECG was developed in a large hospital and medical institutions in rural areas; the implementation of this system in the Uryupinsky district of the Volgograd region showed that almost every fourth examined had any electrocardiographic (and, accordingly, somatic) pathology.

In order to introduce the achievements of the laboratory into practice, regular lectures and seminars are held on the latest achievements of electrocardiography and Holter ECG monitoring, distance learning courses are conducted; in recent years, 10 guidelines were published.
